Install Claude Code and say hello.
Claude Code running in a folder on your computer, answering a question about that folder.
Open the terminal.
On a Mac, press ⌘ Space, type Terminal, press Enter. On Windows, open the Start menu, type PowerShell, press Enter. It looks bare. That is correct.
Install Claude Code.
Paste the line for your machine and press Enter. It downloads one program and tells you when it is done. Then close the terminal and open it again so it notices.
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex
Make a folder and step into it.
Claude works inside one folder at a time. Give it an empty one so nothing you own is in reach yet.
mkdir -p ~/first-build && cd ~/first-build
Start Claude and sign in.
One word starts it. The first time, it opens your browser to sign in with your Claude account. Come back to the terminal when it says you are signed in.
claude
Ask your first question.
Type this and press Enter. Watch what it does before it answers: it looks at the folder first. It always looks before it talks.
What is in this folder, and what are three small things we could build here? Keep it short.
